#4 Curated Focus Weekly
Curated Focus Weekly, a musical experiment to have a good ear week ◄(^_^)►
THIS WEEK: Electro Cumbia · Experimental · Soundtrack ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ · Pop, indie, folk, acoustic
Today we have a musical selection to share, which might or might not take you out of the box. Regardless of its effect on you, we invite you to at least one day this week practice this: Listen and speak only when strictly required. Like a day vow of silence. Observing the reality around you, and listening, can be quite powerful.
UPS
Set: Electro cumbia by DJ Manafiesta
Listen on: SoundCloud /
Genre: Electro cumbia
Pair with: Move the feet under the table
DJ Manifiesta did this mix during his first time living in Tijuana, Mexico. He now brings that exotic touch to the cold and gray island where he currently lives, England. You can hear his love to latin music in his mixes, where he brings that diverse touch from latin American music (which can be really diverse); From Mexico all the way to Argentina. Sometimes you’ll hear for example some “Rancheras Colombianas” flavour, or traditional Peruvian Folk. For sure, this mix will get your feet moving under the table, and if you got a standing desk, get ready to dance.

MIDS
Set: New material mix by A.A.L (AKA: Nicolas Jaar)
Listen on: SoundCloud /
Genre: experimental
Pair with: Wanna-find-new-music-rage, Get out of that box but not so much.
This is part of an experiment of Nicolas Jaar, a producer from Chile. He is the kind of musician who gets you ear wormed with his albums, and then performs > 5h live improvisational sets! This new material set was aired last week for NTS under his Alias: Against All Logic. When you hear it, you’ll know why.
Note: He actually does not want to have his photo associated with this alias, for which he said that to air his music, they can use "any picture of a military man holding a cellphone."
PS 1: The logiclessness of the mix, is actually the charm of it.
PS 2: One of our curators has been quite positively ear-wormed to Nico’s music for the last year. (yes, so much that she calls him Nico. Call it Latinos trust)
Listen more of A.A.L; or something of Nico
Soundtrack: It must be heaven
Listen on: Spotify /
Pair with: need some calm, but not enough to sleep
Genre: soundtrack ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Last week one of us watched this independent movie from Elia Suleiman. There are no better words to give you context of the movie, rather than the words of the review in Hollywood reporter: “Elia Suleiman uses his own face and body to express the soul of Palestine in his films, and nowhere more so than in his droll new comedy, It Must Be Heaven”.
In a subtle way the movie will invite you to observe the reality around you, in silence, and respond to it with kindness and calmness.
The soundtrack gets you through a lovely and diverse musical journey, which won’t stop surprising you.
DOWNS
