IWD special: A day to celebrate Women* & Femininity
A musical exploratory experiment to discover music to focus ◄(^_^)►
TODAY → International Women’s Day Special
Today, is a day that remind us in Curated Focus, of the importance of balance and inclusion without silencing the difference of the other.
We believe that today’s predominant world’s masculine energy (known as: achievement, competitiveness, and material rewards) has got massive good impact on the evolution of societies.
We are also convinced, that every day becomes more relevant that feminine energy (known as: cooperation, modesty, well being and consensus), is brought to a primary focus, to balance the negative effects that hyper masculinity is having in our societies: wars, environment resources depletion, hyper-achievement, loneliness, burnout.
That is why we have prepared a special episode today, the International Women’s Day, to give you some options to spend the day listening to, and be musically filled the wonderful work of these women in the underground music scene.

Women promoting women in music
Set: Eclectic Podcast by Electric Indigo
Listen on: SoundCloud
Genre: Techno
Electric Indigo is a DJ and Producer with a wide and vast musical career. In 1998 she founded female:pressure, the international network for female*, non-binary and transgender artists in electronic music that was awarded with an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2009. Her compositions premiered at festivals like Wien Modern, CTM and Heroines of Sound.
She is an amazing artist, who is actively advocating for diversity in the most vivid house of techno music: Berlin. She has endured, and made a huge impact to get more diversity in the musical scene, think of it, female:pressure has today 22 years of being founded, and we are sure she did not started with her activism right then.
Kudos Sussane (her real name)!

Playlist: Indie Music Women by Linda Garnett
Listen on: Spotify
Genre: Mixed mid tempo
Linda’s website indieMusicWomen.com, is featuring profiles of women making life in the indie music scene, from starting to well-stablished. They can be artist making anything in the scene: songwriters, producers, recording engineers, publicists, and more.
This playlist Linda says: “is a collection of songs from the women I’ve featured or promoted through my Website and social media accounts. The list is refreshed weekly with three new songs, to keep it fresh, while older songs are dropped to keep the playlist to a manageable size.”
Kudos Linda for your wonderful work!
Album: Pulse of Indignation by Cruel Diagonals
Listen on: Spotify
Genre: Experimental
Cruel Diagonals is Los Angeles-based vocalist & field recordist, Megan Mitchell. This experimental electronic album is a powerfully dark and heavy expression of the exploitative experiences that many women and non-men have faced in a male-dominated music industry.
Megan is also running a site called: Many Many Women. That is an index of music, aiming to amply the work of marginalized voices in the Ambient genre by increasing their visibility.
Massive Kudos for Megan, not only for making music that blows our minds, but also by advocating for diversity in the music field, going to conferences, blog about it, and actively spread the voice over the years!

We took this from Megan Mitchell’ site, we find it relevant to share as part of the topic of our special today:
A Note About Inclusivity
The English language presents a barrier to expression for our trans brothers and sisters and non-binary friends. There is unfortunately (to my knowledge, at this time), no succinct, clean way of saying that this index is for any group of individuals who have been marginalized and oppressed by the patriarchal norms of our society. By choosing to use the term “women” to describe the members of this index, I understand that it reinforces the binary “other,” and may alienate individuals whose work has not been given proper attention due to their gender identity or perceived gender. Please know that artists whose work fall under the scope of this index are welcome here as long as they are not cis men. Thank you for your understanding and compassion around this topic, and feel free to reach out to me (a cis, white woman) to extend the dialogue.
